It seems I have taken a 6 month blogging hiatus. I intend to get back into it with some regularity given it will be a major mode of communication in the not too distant future.
Vancouver BC. A quick escape from Seattle, but we have only seemed to pass through or take day trips. It has been years since the last time we were here. It helps that the exchange rate is very much in our favor. Yesterday, we went to Granville Island Public Market, essentially the Pike’s Place Market of Vancouver.
Granville Island is worth a visit. It is everything you want on a vacation: food, art, and little boutiques not to mention 3 hours of free parking daily. We will probably go back again today because we realized that we missed a section as we were driving away.
The Public Market is reminiscent of Pike’s Place, but it also reminded me of a cleaner version of the markets we have visited in Mexico or Asia. The European influence is very apparent in the availability of cheeses, fresh pasta, and there was even a booth of pate`. It was also a nice foray into using the metric system. It will take some adjusting, seeing that I am not the science buff D is and America insists on being different than the rest of the world, but it has been fun to order in grams and think in kilometers. We couldn’t resist the olive bar and ended up with roasted nuts in three amazing flavors. Gotta tell you the margarita flavored cashews should be eaten with everything.
Our Airbnb, has a great view of the city and is in the heart of the West End. I awoke to the sound of seagulls reminding of our proximity to water. Today we are adventuring to Stanley Park and possibly beyond, so maybe I will blog about that later… or the food, there is always room to blog about food :).
Sayonara for now… D&M
